Most sought-after job so far a post in a political party advising government, says website report

More than half a million people have applied to take China’s civil service entrance exam within days of applications opening, according a news website report.

The most sought-after job offered in this year’s recruitment round has so far attracted the interest of 2,320 people for one vacancy, the China News Service reported.

More than 530,000 people had applied for the entrance exam by Thursday, the sixth day applications were accepted, according to the article. That is higher than the number recorded in the same period last year.

The test is often dubbed one of the biggest and hardest exams of the year in China as a career in the civil service is still considered a job for life. About 1.4 million people are expected to apply for the test this year, the report said.

The job with the most applicants is in the general office of the China Democratic League’s central committee.

The post includes preparing for conferences, events and receptions.

The league is a registered political party which advises the government and is mainly made up of intellectuals working in the education, science and technology and culture sectors.

About 10,000 people fought for one position in the civil service in 2013, a record high, the report said.

Applications for this year’s civil service examination end on Monday.

The written test is scheduled for the end of November.

More than 27,000 posts are ultimately on offer in the service.
