Chinese sanitation worker beaten after nearly running over dog in street

Police investigating incident in Suzhou in Jiangsu province, says newspaper

A cleaning worker was beaten to the ground by a couple on the street after his sanitation vehicle nearly hit their dog, according to a newspaper report.

The man got into the fight with the couple after the incident in Suzhou in Jiangsu province on Monday night, the Yangtse Evening Post reported.

Surveillance video showed the vehicle almost hit a small black dog and a man and woman began arguing with the worker and attacking him.

The video showed the cleaner take out a poker, but failed to hit the man as the woman seized his hand.

He was then beaten to the ground, the report said.

The cleaner, He Yanlong, was later sent to hospital where he received eight stitches to his head.

The dog was not on a leash and fortunately the worker managed to stop in time, the local sanitation department was quoted as saying.

The department claimed the couple had even wanted to hit a passer-by who was mediating.

Police are investigating.
