A woman in Zhejiang province didn’t realise she was pregnant until her waters broke, thinking she had just gained weight after spending much of her spare time surfing the internet, the Taizhou Evening News reports.

The baby had died a couple of days before the woman was found too weak to stand up at the entrance of an internet bar in coastal Yuhuan county and taken to hospital by local police earlier this month, doctors later said.

The woman, 24, who had been orphaned at a young age, was “shocked” when a doctor told her, after 24 hours of emergency treatment, that she had been expecting a baby.

She said she had felt sick and passed water when leaving the bar at 4am on November 4, after spending the night there.

“Though my stomach got very big, I bled last month so I didn’t think I could be pregnant. I didn’t worry much and went to the internet bar,” she was quoted as saying.

The woman, whose parents died when she was little, came to the county earlier this year to visit a friend and took a job at a local factory. She said she broke up with her boyfriend several months ago and didn’t have his contact details.

The report said she had recovered and been discharged from hospital.
