Vehicle hits Chinese woman lying in road during protest after city traffic police stop and inspect her van

A woman was injured after being struck by a vehicle while lying in the road to protest after Chinese traffic police stopped her van to carry out a roadside inspection, mainland media reports.

The unnamed woman suffered injuries to her feet and was taken to hospital for treatment, the Nanjing Morning Newspaper reported.

She became emotional while arguing with police about why they had stopped the van.

The woman burst into tears and lay down in the middle of the road to protest, the report said.

The man driving the van asked the woman to get up off the road but she refused.

At that moment another vehicle approaching the scene struck the woman, injuring her feet.

The report said she was later taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries, but did not give further details.

Police were quoted as saying that the woman had complained that they were targeting vehicles with number plates registered outside Nanjing.
