Chinese girl, 5, beaten, punched and kicked by abusive uncle

Man admits multiple assaults on girl in his care in Heilongjiang province, news website reports

A five-year-old girl from northeast China has been physically abused by her step uncle, leaving her with nine broken ribs and a fractured left leg, a news website reported.

The 36-year-old man has admitted assaulting the girl multiple times, punching and kicking her and striking her with batons, reported.

The man, who is the brother of the girl’s stepmother, has been arrested, the report said, citing the public security bureau in Heihe in Heilongjiang province.

The girl was placed in the care of her father after her mother left the family, according to the article.

The girl also has a 12-year-old stepbrother and the pair were left with their uncle when the abuse took place.

Her father and stepmother are not cooperating with the police investigation, according to the report.

About 45,000 yuan (HK$50,000) has been raised by well-wishers to help the girl after details of her case were publicised.
