Chinese man arrested for ‘dismembering girlfriend and killing her son’

He is believed to have disposed of woman’s remains in a river and buried her son in the countryside before making off with their cash

A man has been arrested in northern China on suspicion of having killed his girlfriend and her son and stolen 1.8 million yuan (HK$2 million) from the woman’s bank account.

The man, surnamed Dong, and his accomplice, surnamed Liu, were taken away by police in Shijiazhuang, Hebei province, this month, the Hebei Television reported.

Dong is believed to have killed his girlfriend, 45, with a meat cleaver in their home on April 20 after the couple quarrelled, according to the report.

The next day, he chopped up the woman’s body and disposed of the remains into a river, the report said.

Afraid to be found out, he then strangled the woman’s son, who was in his 20s, to death with the help of his friend Liu, the report quoted Dong as telling police.

The pair then buried the young man’s body in the countryside, the report said.

Later, Dong withdrew 1.8 million yuan from the woman’s bank account and sold her car for cash, according to the report.

Local police started investigating the matter after receiving reports that human remains had been found on an island by a river.

More than 1.5 million yuan in cash was found in Dong’s home after his arrest, the report said.
