A man supprised passersby on a Beijing street by asking them to hit his buttocks in exchange for 10 yuan (HK$11.25) to help fund an operation for his son.

Kneeling in his underwear in freezing weather outside a metro station in central Beijing, the man held up a wooden stick and offered people a chance to hit him for 10 yuan per hit, with his wife holding the child by his side, local newspaper the Mirror reported.

The man had travelled with his family almost 1,500km from Chongqing to the capital to treat his one-year-old son, who has a congenital eye disorder that might leave him blind without proper treatment, he explained in a message on cardboard placed next to himself.

Coming from a rural family, the man could not afford the 100,000 yuan hospital fee for the operation so came up with the idea to raise money, the report said.
