Two killed in skiing accidents at Beijing Winter Olympics venue

Woman and boy killed in separate accidents in Zhangjiakou in Hebei province, newspaper reports

Two people died in skiing accidents this week in one of the city’s that will host the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022, Chinese media reported.

A woman student from Peking University and a 10-year-old boy from Beijing died in separate accidents in Zhangjiakou in Hebei province, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

The accidents have prompted inquiries by the authorities, the report said.

The woman died in an accident on Monday after her head hit a tree.

The boy, who had three years’ skiing experience, was killed on Wednesday after falling down a cliff, according to the article.

Beijing is hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics and Zhangjiakou is the venue for many of the sports.

It attracts skiing fans from the capital every winter.

The government in the Chongli district where both accidents occurred said police and tourism officials were investigating.
