Traffic police in China raise goat born during road accident

Its mother died on a highway, but the newborn animal was unharmed and is being cared for by officers back at the station

Traffic police in China’s Jiangxi province have adopted a baby goat that survived after its mother was run over and killed on a highway, a local television station reports.

A sedan struck the mother goat on Tuesday. The driver got out and found the goat bleeding on ground, with the goat lying nearby, according to Jiangxi Network Broadcasting Television.

The mother soon died of the her injuries , but the baby, still attached to the placenta, tried to stand up.

Traffic police who attended the scene took the baby animal back to the station and fed it milk. Within hours, the little one was on its feet.

A vet examined it and found no sign of injury or defects, saying the that the mother was probably about to give birth at the time of the accident, and that the goat was probably forced out of her stomach by the force of the impact.
