Chinese woman broadcasts threat to jump off building on internet

A woman broadcast her threats to jump off a building in southeast China on the internet before her suicide attempt was halted by the police, according to a newspaper report.

The woman from Changzhou in Jiangsu province threatened to leap from the ninth floor of the tower block and many people were watching a live-stream online, the Modern Express reported.

The woman, who was not named and was said to be mentally ill, was saved after police broke down the door of her house, according to the article.

She was standing on a ledge outside the window and officers took an hour to persuade her to come back inside.

Host on popular Chinese live-streaming website unmasked for faking acts of generosity

The woman originally came from Chongqing and had been treated at a mental institution in the Changzhou area, the report said.

Live-streaming has become increasingly popular in China, with some broadcasts attracting controversy or censure from the authorities.

One online host who had a reputation for handing out money to people in remote, poor villages was exposed by the media for faking his acts of generosity last year.
