Mother to have leg amputated after motorbike she was on collided with concrete mixer truck in Zhejiang province, newspaper reports
A pregnant woman was seriously injured but her young daughter escaped unharmed after the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a concrete mixer truck in southeast China, a newspaper reported.
The accident happened in Jiaxing in Zhejiang province on Monday, the Qianjiang Evening News reported.
The woman and girl were riding pillion on the bike and were dragged under the wheels of the truck, according to the article.
The mother managed to pull the girl under her body to save her from injury, but the woman was seriously hurt and would need to have her right leg amputated.
The woman, who was five months pregnant, would also need an abortion because the medication she must take to deal with her injuries would harm her unborn child, the report said.
The woman’s husband, who was riding the motorcycle, escaped with slight injuries.
The couple are migrant workers from Yunnan province and the man was quoted as saying he was worried about hospital bills.
Police said the motorcycle rider and truck driver shared equal blame for the accident.
The father was alleged to have no motorcycle driving licence and was riding in the wrong lane, while the truck turning right did not slow down to allow the bike to pass.
The truck driver admitted he did not see the motorbike, the report said.
