House occupant has lucky escape after coach driver swerves to avoid hitting electric bike
A bus crashed into a residential building in eastern China on Saturday night, leaving one person dead another severely injured, mainland media report.
The bus, carrying more than 10 passengers from Mingguang city in Anhui province to Yangzhou in Jiangsu province, swerved to avoid an electric bike and ran off the road into the two-storey building, according to the Yangzhou Evening News.
Two passengers on the bus were severely hurt, and one of them died later in hospital.
Only one person, a man surnamed Yang, was in house at the time and narrowly escaped injury.
Yang had just moved to another room to charge his mobile phone when the bus hit the house, destroying half of it, the report said.
Three others who live in the house, including Yang’s wife, were visiting relatives at that time of the crash.
One witness, who was not named, said the street in Yangzhou was packed with electric bikes at the time of the accident. The bus driver made a sharp turn to avoid one and crashed into the building.
