Chinese man throws rocks at zoo kangaroos to get them hopping
Man justified his action by saying he rarely visits zoos, so wanted to see the animals moving
People are outraged after a man in eastern China was caught on camera throwing rocks at kangaroos to get them to hop around.
The middle-aged man was filmed throwing palm-sized rocks at kangaroos in Zhuyuwan Zoo in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, in a attempt to get the resting animals to hop around, according to the People’s Daily.
Staff at the zoo confirmed the incident occurred.
The video footage shows the suit-wearing man using his phone to capture the kangaroos’ movements after he threw the rocks. His action immediate drew shocked reactions from other zoo visitors near him.
A witness later said some of the rocks hit the kangaroos. She added that other visitors asked the man to stop but he justified his behaviour by saying he rarely visits zoos.
Earlier this month, a teenaged boy was caught on camera attacking two black swans and stomping on their eggs in front of numerous visitors in Yangzhou’s Slender West Lake scenic area, according to the Yangtse Evening Post.
The 15-year-old, who wore a mask and cap, initially jumped over a fence in an attempt to steal swan eggs. But after two swans arrived to defend their eggs and pecked him with their beaks, the teen attacked the swans.
Three days after the incident took place on March 4, police reported the teen suspect had been arrested.
