Several drug dealers were detained in southwest China’s Yunnan province after a wild car chase that damaged two police cars and left one officer injured, local media reported.

The first drug dealer, surnamed Xie, was driving a sports utility vehicle in Zhenyuan county when he breached a police checkpoint but was eventually intercepted following a high-speed chase.

Police found 57.9kg of the addictive and potentially deadly stimulant drug methamphetamine hydrochloride in the vehicle.

Under interrogation, Xie named two accomplices who were driving another car as lookout for the gang. The two were later arrested on a road about 20km away.

Although the incident took place on May 2, it was not reported in local media until Saturday.

The report gave no details of the severity of the officer’s injuries or how they were inflicted, nor the extent of damage to the two police cars.
