Two Chinese pupils seriously injured after car ploughs into bus queue outside school

Several others suffered minor injuries, driver detained after accident in northeastern city of Dalian

A Range Rover sport utility vehicle hit several students and pedestrians outside a middle school in the city of Dalian in Liaoning Province on Wednesday evening, leaving two seriously injured.

The students were waiting at a bus stop outside Dalian No.15 Middle School at 5.51pm when the vehicle hit them while turning at a road junction, according to a report in the Liaoshen Evening News.

Dalian Public Security Bureau confirmed the accident on its official social media account three hours later, and said a total of nine individuals were sent to hospitals for treatment. Two were seriously injured and the rest slightly hurt.

The driver, identified only by his last name Cui, is 67 and is from Liaoning Province, the bureau said. He has been cleared of drunk driving and driving under the influence of drugs, but has been detained for investigation and further tests.
