A man has been arrested in eastern China for painting over a traffic surveillance camera six different times after he had been fined on multiple occasions for parking nearby, according to a news website report.

The man was spotted using a five-metre long stick to paint over the camera suspended over a road in Qingdao in Shandong province, reported.

The camera was first vandalised in March and later defaced several times by the man.

He had been fined eight times by the Qingdao traffic authorities for parking his car on the pavement in the area.

The man, who was not named, said: “I was shown by the camera to have parked my car there three times last year and five times this year. Each time I was fined 200 yuan [US$ 29] and got three points docked on my licence.”

He said he felt angry about the punishments and took it out on the camera.

He was caught last week defacing the traffic equipment.

The man may be placed in police detention for up to 15 days, the report said.
