Chinese driver knocks down old man, takes him far away and leaves him to die
Four women arrested after the incident say they thought ‘he wasn’t injured but would seek compensation when he woke up’
A woman driver in northeast China has been arrested after striking an elderly man and driving him a few kilometres from the scene before leaving him in a village where he later died, a news website reports.
The incident happened in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province, on June 29, according to 163.com
The woman, whose name was not given, struck the man while she was driving the tricycle on a road of Daoli district following lunch with three friends, who also rode in the back of the vehicle.
She and her friends at first put the man in the back of the tricycle, with the intention of taking him to hospital.
The driver said she and her friends did see any injuries on the and believed he was still alive as he was snoring.
After driving about 6km, she decided to drop the man near a village as she was afraid that he would ask for a compensation when he woke up.
Meanwhile, a witness in the neighbourhood called the man’s daughter to tell her that her father had been hit by a motorised vehicle when he was taking a walk and had been taken to hospital by four women. The daughter rushed back home but could not find her father at nearby hospitals.
She then reported the case to the police. Two hours later, she was told that her father had been found with no signs of life in a village.
After five days of tracking and investigation, police arrested the woman with her friends for suspected murder.
