Chinese man taking mum for medical check-up crashes car into hospital

A man crashed his car into a hospital building in eastern China while driving his mother to a medical check-up, state media reported.

The accident happened at a hospital in Nanling county in Anhui province, the state broadcaster CCTV said.

The driver, 60, mistook the accelerator for the brake and crashed into the building while he was trying to park, according to the report.

A man riding an electric bike was also hit, but nobody was injured in the crash.

The car and a lobby at the hospital were badly damaged.

The driver, whose full name was not given, escaped injury because his air bag inflated.

His mother was sitting on a rear seat, avoiding injury.

“He was perhaps in such a hurry to take his mother for treatment that he mistook the gas pedal for the brake,” a traffic police officer was quoted as saying.

The driver will be held responsible for the hospital repairs.

It will also cost 20,000 yuan (US$2,950) to fix his car, the officer said
