Three men jailed for rape of preteen girl in northern China
‘Grandfather figure’ who abused child from the age of 10 given 11 years in prison, while two other also jailed
Three men in northern China have been sentenced to prison terms of between four and 11 years for raping a girl, starting when she was just 10 years old, mainland media reported.
The case came to the attention of the authorities last year after the child’s parents, who are both migrant workers, discovered that Xiaohua – not her real name – was pregnant and reported it to the police in Tanghe county, Henan province, news website Thepaper.cn reported on Thursday.
Xiaohua told police officers that she had been abused on multiple occasions by a 63-year-old man called Qi, who worked as a security guard at a park she visited.
She first met Qi, who worked with one of her relatives, in 2015 when she was 10, and initially liked him and regarded him as a grandfather figure. However, he soon began abusing her and over the next two years raped her on eight separate occasions, the report said.
In court, Qi pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
In the course of their investigation, police discovered that Xiaohua had also been abused by two other men.
The first was a 30-year-old surnamed Zhang, whom the child had met via a social media app, the report said, adding that he initially told Xiaohua he was 15.
The child said she fell in love with him and considered him her boyfriend. They had sex on two separate occasions.
Zhang pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to five years in prison, the report said.
The third offender was a man surnamed Li, 45, who worked at an after-school centre that Xiaohua sometimes attended.
He was found guilty of having sex with the child on several occasions and sentenced to four years in prison, the report said.
Like hundreds of thousands of other “left-behind children” in China, Xiaohua’s mother and father are migrant workers, so she lives with her grandmother.
