Abuse scandals that have tarnished name of Chinese kindergartens
The allegations centred on a kindergarten in Beijing this week are the latest in a series of cases of alleged abuse at nursery schools in China.
Here are details of other abuse cases at Chinese kindergartens to hit the headlines in recent years, which have sparked a debate over whether there is sufficient oversight by the authorities of nursery schools:
Shanghai:
The kindergarten was shut down earlier this month.
Wuhan, Hubei province:
Surveillance footage showed teachers at the Vanke City kindergarten smacking, kicking and pushing children, pulling their ears and waving sticks at them, according to media reports earlier this month. Teachers apologised for their behaviour.

Camera footage showed two cleaners at the Longshan kindergarten using adhesive tape to seal two four-year-old’s mouths for 17 minutes because they were “noisy”. The cleaners were sacked.
Tongxiang, Zhejiang province:
A teacher used a syringe filled with blue paint to threaten nine children at a nursery school who refused to take their afternoon naps. When the deterrent did not work, the teacher jabbed the needle into the buttocks of several of the children. The teacher was placed in detention for 10 days in May.
Baofeng county, Henan province:
Foshan, Guangdong province:
A five-year-old girl was molested more than 40 times at a child care centre for migrant workers by a social worker between 2014 and 2015. The social worker was jailed for three years.
