Murder hunt after Chinese girl, 14, killed on way to school

A murder hunt is underway in Sichuan province in southwest China after a 14-year-old girl was killed as she walked to school, according to Chinese media reports.

The girl, whose full name was not given, was killed in Shangluo on Thursday morning, The Mirror reported.

Two school pupils walking ahead heard a scream, but did not see the suspect due to heavy fog, an unnamed source close to the investigation told the Chengdu Economic Daily.

The girl had already died by the time an ambulance got to the scene, the paper said.

A garden hoe found near her body is believed to be the murder weapon, police were quoted as saying.

The girl had a head injury and a middle-aged woman was seen crying with the victim’s body in her arms, a witness told the paper.
