At least 10 people had died by Friday morning after a building collapsed in Shanghai on Thursday.

Fifteen people were being treated in hospital after the roof of a former car repair shop that was undergoing a conversion collapsed.

The 15 survivors and the 10 people killed were pulled from the rubble in a search that involved more than 150 rescuers.

The building, located beside Zhaohua Road in Changning district, was formerly a Dongchi Mercedes-Benz repair shop, which closed earlier this year.

The building was being converted into a commercial complex with restaurants, shops and offices.
