Injuries no barrier to star bringing her own sparkle to very special gem show

Karen Mok Man-wai's workaholic tendencies have been causing her some problems. Following a car accident a few months ago, which left her with a bruised hip and sprained ankle, she reportedly went back to work on the movie the day after she was discharged from hospital.

As a consequence she has undergone several procedures to remove blood clots and had not yet fully recovered when she attended jeweller Chow Tai Fook's event on Friday.

Mok helped launch the exhibition of its boss Cheng Yu-tung's private collection - and together with Cheng unveiled a rare 102.88-carat yellow diamond.

The singer-actress said her accident had taught her to take things easier and she had spent a few days resting. Nevertheless, her eyes shone when she talked about her first jazz album, describing it as a dream come true. It will be released in about two months' time, when she will start to promote it.

Other guests included former beauty queens Maria Chan Chai-ping and Cally Kwong Mei-wan. Kwong is due to appear on a new show on Commercial Radio, where she will mainly talk about jewellery as an investment. Friday was a perfect chance for her to dig deeper into the topic, although the Miss Hong Kong-turned-jewellery trader probably owns an enviable collection of her own.
