While most local fashion designers produce two collections a year, Susanna Ngao - mastermind behind the up-and-coming S.Nine brand - is doubling that.

"I couldn't stop," the alumnae of Parsons the New School for Design said on Tuesday night at the presentation of her 2013 resort collection.

"I'd rather work on a smaller collection that showcases the inspiration I'm currently channelling than save the ideas for a larger show months later."

More than 300 guests - including celebrity models, fashion editors and bloggers - attended the event at Central's Shore restaurant and bar.

Rosemary Vandenbroucke strutted down the runway, while fellow model Cara Grogan lent support in an S.Nine dress.

The Utopia-themed collection was mostly inspired by the designer's trips to remote islands and resorts.

"There are dresses that you can toss in your suitcase before you take off," Ngao said.

"For example, I used a scuba diving [suit] jersey to make a sleek gown - something effortless with a touch of glamour."

What inspired her the most were the people she got to work with, she said.

"There are so many fabulous women in Hong Kong that I resonate with, am inspired by and want to dress," she said.
