Known more for comfort and functionality than style, American shoemaker Rockport has surprised with a stylish autumn collection, paying more attention to design in a bid to attract chic young buyers.
Its two-tone wingtip Oxford shoes, and ankle boots with colourful soles and checkered lining, for instance, can be paired with rolled-up pants or more formal garments for different occasions.
Although the design of the ballet flats for women felt a little old-fashioned and well … flat, the high-heeled ankle boots look quite edgy - at least on Texan model Erin Wasson (right), who fronted the campaign. The new footwear comes in four styles: plain leather, snakeskin pattern, leopard print and black suede with golden trim, the latter two with matching clutches.
But the commitment to lightness and foot health remains unchanged, according to Kitty Szeto Chi-kwan, senior marketing executive of distributor Swire Resources.
"Some of our shoes are lighter than a [375ml] box of lemon tea. That is ideal for Hongkongers' marathon-like lifestyle and allows them to hop from work to leisure with ease," Szeto said. The shoes also have hi-tech elements, she said.
