Student punished for bomb hoax
University student Chan Hung-yu, 24, was yesterday ordered to do 120 hours of community service for e-mailing hoax bomb threats to the Legislative Council and the MTR Corp. Chan was protesting against the Legco filibustering and the MTR fare rise in May.
Snakeheads, illegal workers arrested at sea
Marine police arrested in Deep Bay two suspected snakeheads and the 10 mainlanders they were transporting. Police stopped the speedboat in Tsim Bei Tsui after a brief chase, and found five men and seven women, alleged illegal workers, crammed in the vessel.
City University evicts worker after row
A City University employee given a month's notice to leave his staff residence after having a row with neighbours was standing firm. The eviction order letter said Hans Mahncke must leave because he used offensive language in a row with his neighbours. Mahncke, a senior co-ordinator in the university provost's office, lives in the 1,500 sq ft home in Kowloon Tong with his wife and two children.
Triads collared over teenager's beating
Six suspected members of the 14K triad were arrested over an attack on an 18-year-old, now in critical condition, in Kwun Tong. The homes of the suspects, aged 16 to 20, in Kwun Tong and Tseung Kwan O were raided.
