Canto-pop singer Jolie Chan flexes her jazz hands for October charity concert

Canto-pop singers rarely venture into jazz music at their concerts, although veterans such as Jacky Cheung Hok-yau and Khalil Fong Dai-tong have dipped their toes into the genre. But now, up-and-coming songstress Jolie Chan Yuen-kei is having a go.

Chan was at Bang & Olufsen's Wan Chai showroom on Tuesday, where she announced that she was preparing for a charity jazz concert. She will perform with pianists Phoebus Chan and Yusuke Hatano, and saxophonist Miles Li, at the "Love Affairs with Jolie" show on October 16 at the W hotel.

"It's a dream come true for me," Chan said. "I've been singing jazz for the past two years. It all started with a tipsy night in a jazz bar when I took the stage to sing."

After her spontaneous performance she was approached by a veteran jazz singer, who encouraged her to follow her passion.

Tickets will be available on the door, cost HK$380 and come with two drinks. Net proceeds will be donated Hao Xue Action, which runs educational schemes for underprivileged mainland children.
