Police foiled an attempt by three youths to help a teenage girl escape from police custody in Tuen Mun on Friday, officers said.

Although initial details were sketchy, the girl, 15, was reportedly in the lift lobby of the Tuen Mun Court building, escorted by two policewomen, when the three boys appeared around 12.30pm.

Two policewomen were injured while trying to stop the three boys from snatching the girl, according to police.

The police did not release the name of the girl, who was reportedly being sent to the Tuen Mun Juvenile Home.

The injured officers called for reinforcements and gave chase.

The girl and two of the boys tried to escape by flagging down a taxi on Tuen Mun Heung Sze Wui Road, a police spokeswoman said.

But the pursuing officers intercepted the taxi before it drove off, and arrested the three youngsters.

The other youth fled on foot, and officers are still hunting for him in the area.

Detectives from the Tuen Mun district crime squad are investigating what case the girl was involved in and why the three young men wanted to rescue her.
