Man kills wife before jumping to death
A man stabbed his wife to death before jumping to his death from a 38-floor flat in Sau Mau Ping on Friday night.
Police superintendent Remus Chong Siu-hing said the case has been classified as a murder-suicide and was being investigated by the Sau Mau Ping district crime squad.
Around 8pm on Friday, police received a 999 emergency call from the man’s mother. When police arrived at the scene – a flat in Sau Yin House at Sau Mau Ping Estate – the door was locked and officers had to break in.
The 32-year-old man had already jumped from a broken window. His 34-year-old wife was inside a room with multiple stab wounds from a kitchen knife. She was rushed to United Christian Hospital and certified dead. She died from a fatal stab wound to her main left artery, police said.
The man had no history of mental illness, but a violent incident involving the family had been reported a year ago. The family had a stable income, with the man working in construction and his wife in an office.
Police said the man had rushed into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and attacked his wife. The man’s mother and the couple’s two-year-old son witnessed the crime.
