Artist Yue Minjun enlists stars to publicise laughter show

Beijing-based contemporary artist Yue Minjun's first public exhibition in Hong Kong goes beyond just his large-scale sculptures.

He has lined up a few of his Hong Kong celebrity friends for a photo campaign to complement the exhibition entitled "The Tao of Laughter".

Like his works, which often feature himself flashing a jaw-splitting grin, he invited actress Carina Lau Ka-ling, stand-up comedian Jan Lamb Hoi-fung, singer-actress Joyce Cheng Yan-yee, filmmaker Johnnie To Kei-fung and author Chip Tsao to join him for a good laugh.

"Laughter for me has to come from your heart," said Lau as she posed next to one of the sculptures holding an umbrella featuring Yue's work. "You will only have true happiness when you can let go."

Lamb and Tsao were photographed at the historic Sunbeam Theatre in North Point and they both had a good laugh in front of the camera.

Both Cheng and To starred in the photo campaign at their work places - Cheng at TVB headquarters and To in his studio in Kwun Tong.

"The world is infinite, so you can see things from different angles," said To.

"Life is hard so it's a must to laugh it off."

The exhibition is at Harbour City and runs until October 23.
