Collision death toll rises to 39 as girl, 9, dies
The death toll from the National Day sea tragedy rose to 39 on Thursday night when a nine-year-old girl died in hospital.
Tsui Hoi-ying died at 8.53pm in Pamela Youde Eastern Nethersole Eastern Hospital from multiple organ failure after being in critical condition since her admission.
A number of her organs had deteriorated while she was in hospital. Her heart had stopped at one stage and she was being sustained by breathing equipment.
Thirteen of more than 100 other people injured in the collision between the Hongkong Electric boat Lamma IV and the ferry Sea Smooth on Monday remained in hospital, all in stable condition.
