Members of Hong Kong's Foreign Correspondents' Club enjoyed a night of rock 'n' roll when Australian rock band INXS took the stage at its annual ball.

Japanese child guitar prodigy Yuto Miyazawa was the supporting act.

Party-goers in tuxedos, evening gowns and glittering heels headed to the dance floor when the band came on stage.

More than 1,500 guests - the biggest crowd to date, according to the organisers - attended the 11th Foreign Correspondents' Club ball on Saturday at the Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Guests were greeted at the door by a carnival troupe from the Venetian Macao, then served cocktails and previewed items for a silent auction before heading for the wine-pairing dinner. Young beneficiaries from the Po Leung Kuk performed before doing the rounds selling raffle tickets.

The event was attended by business executives and celebrities including Po Leung Kuk chairwoman Jacqueline Leung Po-chu, the Hong Kong Cancer Fund's Robert and Sally Lo, and Ginia Rinehart, daughter of Australian mining magnate Gina Rinehart.
