The taxman has won a court order forbidding Tony Chan Chun-chuen, the debt-ridden fung shui master and former boyfriend of one of the world's richest women, from selling the site of his former home on The Peak.

According to a source familiar with the case, the Inland Revenue Department was granted the injunction by a Court of First Instance judge in chambers last week, preventing Chan from proceeding with the sale said to be worth HK$380 million.

Chan faces claims of HK$330 million in unpaid taxes from the Inland Revenue Department. He also owes the Chinachem Charitable Foundation about HK$100 million in legal costs arising from his failed challenge for late businesswoman Nina Wang Kung Yu-sum's multibillion-dollar estate.

The foundation planned to ask the taxman to let Chan, under the injunction, complete the sale of the site and then have the proceeds frozen, the source said.

In September, Chan filed with the Land Registry a provisional agreement for the sale of the 1,435 square metre site at 17 Bowen Road, where the house had been pulled down.

Tax authorities took action before the deal was due to be completed on Wednesday.
