A Hong Kong man was arrested after trying to smuggle 330 grams of the party drug Ice, or crystal meth, from the mainland, police said on Thursday.
The man, 49, was stopped by police and customs officers at the immigration hall at the Lo Wu border control point, while returning from Shenzhen on Wednesday afternoon.
A search of his bag revealed the 330 grams of the drug concealed in seven packets, and he was later placed under arrest. The haul had an estimated street value of HK$254,000.
Shenzhen is one of the mainland’s biggest gateways for the import and export of illicit drugs. It has become a popular destination for Hong Kong drug users and smugglers in recent years.
