Raid nets snakes but six smugglers escape
Police seized 125 boxes of protected snakes - cobras and common rat snakes - and pangolin scales and confiscated two delivery vans in a raid on the waterfront at Pak Mong on Lantau Island at about 12.30am yesterday. Police said the haul was worth about HK$780,000. Six smugglers escaped on a speedboat or on foot. No one was arrested.
Not-guilty plea over burning of flag
Activist Koo Sze-yiu pleaded not guilty in Eastern Court to two charges of desecrating the national flag. He is accused of burning a flag twice during a protest on June 10. The case was adjourned to January 30 and bail was continued.
Extra 6 months for deputy police chief
The term of Deputy Police Commissioner Xavier Tang Kam-moon, who reaches retirement age in February, was extended for six months. Assistant commissioners Lo Mung-hung, Alfred Chau Kwok-leung, Tony Wong Chi-hung and Lau Yip-shing were promoted to senior assistant commissioners. Seven chief superintendents were promoted to the rank of assistant commissioner.
Man arrested for sale of unregistered drug
A man, 43, was arrested in Mong Kok for illegally selling an unregistered drug with a name in Chinese meaning "Prolonging delay spray for men".
