The Executive Council has endorsed a gas procurement agreement between CLP Power and the mainland to bring natural gas to Hong Kong via a pipeline from Turkmenistan. The 20-year contract will enable CLP to double its gas use and meet the 2015 emission targets.

 

A North Korean sailor, 32, died in the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sha Tin, at about 6am yesterday after he and another sailor, 50, were severely burned in a suspected gas explosion on a cargo vessel last month. The blast occurred in the engine room of the North Korea-registered vessel anchored off Kau Yi Chau on November 20.

 

A 62-year-old man, Ho Kau, died after falling into the harbour from his sampan yesterday. Police and the Marine Department are investigating whether the sampan had collided with a barge off North Point. The sampan was found capsized near the barge. Ho was declared dead at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.

 

More than 60 contract workers at a Social Welfare Department unit that helps social security recipients find jobs held a one-day strike yesterday, in protest against the department's refusal to renew their terms in March.
