Gamblers in Macau will have less space to enjoy a puff, as casinos must now make half of their public space non-smoking. Those caught breaking the ban will be fined 600 patacas. Venues must place warning signs in prominent areas or they will be fined up to 100,000 patacas. Casinos wanting to create designated smoking areas must seek approval by the authorities, or the entire casino must remain smoke-free.
A Colombian man was arrested in the Lan Kwai Fong nightclub area of Central at 3am for allegedly using a credit card he had stolen in a burglary in Tseung Kwan O. Officers also recovered on him items stolen from a couple's flat in Ma Yau Tong Village, including a ring worth HK$80,000.
A total of 140 firemen put out a fire at the Unison Industrial Centre in Fo Tan's Au Pui Wan Street yesterday. The fire broke out at 4am on Monday on the 10th floor, where goods such as computer components and cotton were stored. The Fire Services Department is looking into the cause of the blaze.
The Customs and Excise Department and the Department of Health found drugs and illegal medicines worth HK$750,000 in a storeroom off an alley in Causeway Bay yesterday. Two men aged 28 and 30, believed to work at a pharmacy, were arrested and released on bail.
