Police investigate death of mother and son

Police have launched a probe into the death of a woman and her 10-year-old son found dead at home in Tai Koo Shing in an apparent murder-and-suicide on Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the third-floor flat of Banyan Mansion in Taikoo Wan Road about 9.30am.

“Police received a call from a 37-year-old man when he returned home and found his wife hanging and his son lying unconscious in bed,” a police spokeswoman said.

The woman, 47, who was identified only as Lui, and the boy were certified dead by paramedics at the scene.

Police believe the woman killed her son before hanging herself.

“It appears to be a murder-and-suicide case,” a police officer said.

“Officers are now investigating the death of boy and trying to find out whether he was strangled to death or poisoned.”

The police spokeswoman said an initial investigation showed the couple had relationship problems.

Officers found a suicide note in the apartment.

The Eastern District crime squad is investigating the case.
