Police are investigating the death of a woman and her 10-year-old son, who were both found in their Tai Koo Shing home on Tuesday morning, in what appears to be a murder-and-suicide case.

Officers were called to the third-floor flat of Banyan Mansion in Taikoo Wan Road about 9.30am.

“Police received a call from a 37-year-old man when he returned home and found his wife hanging and his son lying unconscious in bed,” a police spokeswoman said.

The woman, 47, who was identified only as Lui, and the boy were certified dead by paramedics at the scene.

Police believe the woman killed her son before hanging herself.

“Officers are now investigating the death of boy and trying to find out whether he was strangled to death or poisoned,” a police officer said.

The police spokeswoman said an initial investigation showed the couple had had relationship problems.

Officers found a suicide note in the apartment.

The Eastern District crime squad is investigating the case.
