Parallel trader jailed for assaulting MTR workers
A local parallel goods trader was yesterday jailed for two months and 20 days after attacking and threatening two MTR employees at Sheung Shui station.
Chow Hon-wai, 51, was also ordered to pay his two victims HK$900 compensation.
Fanling magistrate Wong Sze-lai called Chow's actions "disgraceful and barbaric".
Wong said Chow had tried to mislead police officers with his allegation that he had been beaten by the MTR employees after his outburst at Sheung Shui.
Yesterday, Chow pleaded guilty to all three charges of common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and criminal intimidation.
The court heard that at about 1.30pm on November 29, Chow had quarrelled with MTR employee Pang Kwok-wai, who was controlling traders packing their goods on the Sheung Shui station concourse.
Chow then followed Pang into the control room, where he hit Pang in the chest once with his mobile phone. When another employee Wong Wai-shing came into the room to intervene, Chow hit Wong in the face.
After the attacks, the trader punched himself and claimed to the police that he had been assaulted by the two men.
On December 21, Chow, who was on police bail, bumped into Wong at Sheung Shui station. He pointed at Wong and said: "If you dare go to work again, I will beat you to death."
The police arrested Chow at Lo Wu station later that day.
Chow, who has two children, is living on the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance.
