Police charged a man and two women with drug dealing, after they were stopped in Hong Kong Airport's departure hall while trying to smuggle HK$1.4 million worth of Ice out of the city. Narcotics Bureau officers were waiting for the trio, aged between 19 and 22, after receiving a tip-off. When the group checked in, their bags were searched and officers allegedly found 2kg of the drug.
Cybercrime had been increasing by 30 per cent a year for the past three years, Police Commissioner Andy Tsang Wai-hung told a radio programme. Tsang said that this rate, cybercrime would soon become the leading offence in the city. Last year, the police only had a 16 per cent success rate for solving cyber crimes.
Intellectually disabled athletes from Hong Kong competing at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, have won three gold, five silver and two bronze medals, all in short track speed skating. The games, which began on January 29 and will end on Tuesday, feature sports such as alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating and snowboarding. The Special Olympics is recognised and endorsed by the International Olympic Committee.
Hong Kong Wetland Park yesterday celebrated World Wetlands Day, which commemorates the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands in Ramsar, Iran, on February 2, 1971. It was an international effort aimed at conservation and wise use of wetlands around the world. Professor Nora Tam Fung-yee, chairwoman of the Country and Marine Parks Board, said at the ceremony: "Wetlands are a crucial provider of water as they store water like giant sponges, and slowly release water for human and wildlife consumption."
A 39-year-old woman in Hung Hom reported 5.5 kg of jade that she had stored in a safe as missing. The jade is estimated to be worth about HK$500,000. The police are investigating.
A 31-year-old man was arrested in Sham Shui Po for assaulting two policemen while drunk. The man became emotional and attacked the officers, injuring one man's foot and the other officer's finger.
