Food and health secretary Dr Ko Wing-man said yesterday the supply of fresh beef from the mainland was steady, amid concerns over the rising price of the meat. The government was still checking to see if the higher prices were because of the monopoly of the sole distributor of fresh mainland beef Ng Fung Hong, he said.
Lawmaker and Islands district councillor Tang Ka-piu said his office received more than 40 complaints last year about telecoms providers. In many cases, the complainants subscribed to pay-TV but said they did not get all the channels for which they had paid.
Almost 80 per cent of 720 people polled last month said they threw away Lunar New Year foods, such as confectionery and turnip cake, if they were unable to finish them. The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, which conducted the poll, urged Hongkongers not to buy more food for the festival season than they can eat.
