Thieves steal phone from actor Ha Yu's Sai Kung home
Thieves broke into former TVB actor Ha Yu's home in Sai Kung on Monday morning and escaped with just a mobile phone after Ha's son fought with one of them.
Two men, in their 20s, got into Ha's three-storey house in Ho Chung New Village about 4.30am and the noise woke his son, 23.
The son, who knows taekwondo, grappled with one of the burglars, who managed to get away with his partner after taking a smartphone worth HK$5,000. He was not hurt in the scuffle.
Police found a screwdriver and a damaged window.
Ha, 67, whose original name was Wong Sing-chi, is in Canada on holiday. He said his home was also robbed last month and he lost more than HK$100,000.
"This time the loss is not much because all the valuables were taken away last time."
He has won several accolades for his acting on television, including best actor by TVB in 2008 for his role in Moonlight Resonance.
Meanwhile, a man, 44, was caught red-handed as he tried to remove a safe from a restaurant in Tung Chi Street in Kwai Chung.
Officers are looking for another man, who was last seen wearing a black shirt, jeans and black cap.
Police recorded 4,214 burglaries last year, down 3.8 per cent from a year ago. The thieves took a total of HK$175 million from homes and HK$53.21 million from non-residential buildings.
