We did not dump murder evidence: police
Police Commissioner Andy Tsang Wai-hung has denied a newspaper's allegations that the police threw away evidence in a recent murder case.
He was responding to yesterday's report claiming that 12 bags of items - including a pillow, a mattress and clothes, mostly bloodstained - were dumped by cleaners clearing the murder scene in Pat Heung, Yuen Long, on Wednesday.
Tsang said the items were not exhibits, and that no evidence had been dumped. "In this case, we have collected all the exhibits needed … Other items not needed have been properly documented, including photographs taken," he said.
But Tsang admitted that the disposal of the unwanted items could have been more ideal. "I'm aware that the handling of some objects tainted with blood … may not be ideal. This is the area of our concern - not that we have omitted any exhibits," he said.
In the murder case the police are now investigating, an 18-year-old man and his 19-year-old friend have been arrested and accused of killing the younger man's father and seriously wounding his stepmother in their Pat Heung village flat.
Yesterday, Tsang also commented on another report, published on Wednesday.
The newspaper had an exclusive interview with Henry Chau Hoi-leung, 29, who was this week accused of murdering and dismembering his parents with a friend in their Tai Kok Tsui flat.
The interview was conducted in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre, where Chau was remanded.
The commissioner said instructions have been sought from the Department of Justice as the report gave details into the case after court proceedings had already started, which could prejudice its outcome.
