Cabbie robs and beats his passenger

Police have arrested a cabbie in connection with a robbery in which a female taxi passenger was assaulted and robbed of her handbag in Yuen Long. The 54-year-old man was picked up by detectives in Yuen Long at about 7pm on Monday.

Police have arrested a cabbie in connection with a robbery in which a female taxi passenger was assaulted and robbed of her handbag in Yuen Long.

The 54-year-old man was picked up by detectives in Yuen Long at about 7pm on Monday.

Police are still looking for the stolen properties – a handbag worth HK$6,800, a mobile phone worth HK$3,000, a wallet and her identity card.

On Tuesday afternoon, the suspect was still being detained in Yuen Long police station and had not bee charged.

A police investigator said the man would be line up in an identification parade on Wednesday.

The robbery happened at about 3.30am on April 5 after the 33-year-old woman flagged down a New Territories taxi in Kau Yuk Road, Yuen Long.
