Another arrest in suspected triad murder case

Lai Ying-kit

Police arrested a 22-year-old man on Monday in connection with the chopping attack that killed a suspected triad member outside a hospital last month, bringing the number of arrests in the case to nine.

The latest arrest was made in Lok Ma Chau early on Monday morning. The suspect is still being detained by police for further questioning.

The 30-year-old murder victim was a suspected triad member nicknamed Mouse Shing. He was found unconscious with multiple cut wounds at 1pm in Po Kin Road outside North District Hospital in Shueng Shui on April 28. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead at 2.32pm.

The victim was attacked by two masked men armed with an axe and a cleaver. After the attack, the pair fled in a white car before police arrived. An axe was found at the scene.

Previously eight men, aged between 18 and 33, were arrested in connection with the murder. One of them, a 33-year-old man, is still being detained for questioning.

The attack is believed to be part of a long-standing battle between two factions of the notorious Wo Shing Wo triad society.
