Teachers will choose a student in each class and award them a pair of tickets in the project called "I did it", which will see the Hong Kong theme park hand out 20,000 tickets in its biggest-ever giveaway.
The initiative was announced yesterday at the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Home School Co-operation Committee, which is under the Education Bureau and helps forge closer links between parents and schools.
The idea was thought up at a meeting between the committee's vice-chairman Professor Paul Yip Siu-fai and Disneyland managing director Andrew Kam as a way to help youngsters not naturally top of their classes.
Schools can select pupils who have succeeded in spite of difficulties, made a special contribution or who have shown good improvement.
Yip said yesterday he hoped the project can extend to kindergartens and secondary schools and that other Hong Kong institutions would take part.
"We sometimes put too much emphasis on academic awards," he said. "Children need more rewards and be appreciated for what they have achieved, even if those achievements are not strictly academic.''
