Police have launched an investigation into a non-profit information technology organisation, months after the government terminated a contract with it over operational issues.
Witman Hung Wai-man, president of the Internet Professional Association (iProA), confirmed last night that Commercial Crime Bureau officers had collected documents from his office in April.
In 2010, iProA joined forces with charity group the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association to form a company called eInclusion. In October that year, the company won a HK$220 million tender to start an internet learning programme for poor children.
iProA received about HK$2 million in government funds to conduct the course, but critics accused the group of bad governance and poorly kept accounts.
In February, the government terminated the five-year contract effective May 19, saying eInclusion had presented untruthful information about its operations.
A spokeswoman for the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer said the group had violated contract terms and exhibited deficiencies in handling public funds.
