Possessive teenage boy jailed for beating girlfriend, forcing her to have sex
A teenager who coerced his girlfriend into having sex with him by harming himself, hurt her during arguments and threatened to release nude pictures of her was jailed for four years and eight months on Thursday.
Lau Man-hin, 19, a student, abused the then 15-year-old victim, in 2010, the Court of First Instance heard.
He earlier pleaded guilty to procuring another person by threats or intimidation, unlawful sex with a girl under 16, criminal intimidation and assault.
The court heard that Lau slapped the girl when she contacted her ex-boyfriend and stabbed his hand with a pencil when she refused to have sex with him.
When the girl asked to end the relationship, Lau threatened to kill himself.
Lau also threatened to send pictures of the girl’s private parts and their sex acts to her mother.
Madam Justice Maggie Poon Man-kay refused to sentence Lau to a training centre although she noted that he had a good academic record and the chance of him reoffending was low.
The judge said a training centre order did not reflect the seriousness of Lau’s offences and it was not in the public interest.
“Although the age difference between the two is just two years, the defendant’s behaviour in the relationship was absolutely controlling X [the girl],” the judge said.
The judge sentenced Lau to four years and eight months in jail, after reducing the sentence in light of Lau’s guilty plea, which removed the need for the victim to testify in court.
