The organisers of a protest tomorrow calling for development minister Paul Chan Mo-po to step down say a police request for them to arrange marshals to maintain order is unreasonable. They refused to commit to providing at least 30 marshals for the rally, as required in a letter issued by police yesterday.

Jackie Hung Ling-yu, spokeswoman for organiser the Civil Human Rights Front, said there was no requirement in the Public Order Ordinance for rally organisers to provide marshals.
She said the group had asked the police to explain the condition or remove it.
The group had earlier argued with police over the starting point of the march. It wanted to begin near Sogo mall in Causeway Bay, but the police said Victoria Park would be a better place to start for crowd control. The police eventually accepted the group's plan with the proviso that the march begin immediately if the starting point becomes too congested.
The march will finish at the government headquarters in Tamar, Admiralty.
